Being online is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. From accessing healthcare services and communicating with schools to applying for jobs and managing everyday tasks, technology plays a vital role in modern life. However, for many people, navigating the digital world can be challenging.
That’s why Capella Computer Solutions is proud to be supporting Family Action’s recently launched Digital Hub in Welland, Peterborough, helping local families and residents build their digital confidence while staying safe online. The Digital Hub was established to provide free digital support to the community, particularly those who may be digitally excluded or lack the confidence to use technology effectively.
Helping the Community Stay Safe Online
As part of our volunteer involvement with the Digital Hub, the Capella team has been delivering cyber hygiene and cyber awareness sessions, providing practical advice and guidance to help individuals and families protect themselves online.
Our sessions focus on real-world, everyday topics, including:
- Recognising phishing emails and online scams
- Creating and managing strong passwords
- Protecting personal and financial information
- Safe online shopping and banking practices
- Understanding cyber threats and how to avoid them
- Developing good digital habits for the whole family
The aim is simple: to give people the knowledge and confidence they need to use technology safely and securely.
Why Cyber Hygiene Matters
Cyber security is often seen as something only businesses need to worry about, but the reality is that everyone who uses the internet can benefit from good cyber hygiene practices. Criminals increasingly target individuals through scams, fake websites, fraudulent messages and social engineering techniques.
By sharing practical advice in a friendly and accessible way, we hope to help local residents feel more confident using digital services while reducing the risks associated with being online.
Supporting a Valuable Community Initiative
The Digital Hub operates from Woodfield Park Community Centre and offers regular drop-in sessions where residents can receive support with a range of digital needs. These include using laptops and tablets, accessing NHS and other online services, writing CVs, searching for jobs, and developing essential digital skills.
The hub forms part of Family Action’s wider community support programme, which aims to remove barriers, reduce isolation, and provide practical help to families and individuals across the local area.
We believe initiatives like this are incredibly important. Digital inclusion is about more than just having access to technology, it’s about ensuring people have the confidence, knowledge and support needed to make the most of it.
Giving Back Through Technology
